Who We Are

This is us

The power of being proximate

Shadab Sarmast is the founder and CEO of Livelihood, Economic & Agriculture Development Organization (LEADO). We believe in the transformative power of agriculture and economic development to uplift communities and foster lasting peace. LEADO stands as a beacon of hope in war-torn regions and developing economies worldwide. With a profound vision of strengthening economic livelihoods through agricultural value chains, we have been shaping lives and landscapes for over a decade.

LEADO was established from a vision of resilient communities, flourishing households, and thriving farmers in the face of adversity. We recognize the daunting challenges faced by local communities in developing and post-conflict economies. Our mission is to empower farmers, households, and communities by providing strategic mediations that enhance their socioeconomic livelihoods. Through our work, we aim not only to improve the economic prospects of individuals but also to foster peace and prosperity for all our beneficiaries.

The mission

Millions of rural people have a lot to gain

In a country where 80 percent of the population depends on agriculture, improvements in farming technology, products and practices – and the credit to access them – are vital to improving living conditions.

That’s where we come in. Our mission is to increase incomes across rural Afghanistan, and Somalia. Over the past 15 years, our farmers have seen an average annual income increase of 30 percent by advanced agricultural methods and humantrian assistances provided to communities, which helps put food on the table, keep kids in school and set families up for a brighter, easier future.

The mission

35 million rural people with a lot to gain

In a country where 70 percent of the population depends on agriculture, improvements in farming technology, products and practices – and the credit to access them – are vital to improving living conditions.

That’s where we come in. Our mission is to increase incomes across rural Myanmar. Over the past 19 years, our customers have seen an average annual income increase of 30 percent by using our products and services, which helps put food on the table, keep kids in school and set families up for a brighter, easier future.

Agility through moments of change

While our mission has always stayed the same, over the years we’ve adapted quickly, responding to changing needs.

LEADO was established with the spirit to empower communities to meet their own sustainable development goals.

As we grow, we continuously aim to deliver the most impactful interventions for our beneficiaries. Now we have moved beyond treadle pumps to scale a wider platform of agricultural services, LEADO’s aim is to improve each step of the agricultural value chain. We introduce farmers to new methods and technology, improve export marketing techniques, and create strategies for ramping up food exports to lucrative overseas markets.

Social and enterprising

LEADO ensures that its social initiatives are financially viable and self-sustaining. The organization leverages entrepreneurial strategies to assist local businesses, improve farm techniques, address supply chain gaps, and support local exporting to reach high-value markets. LEADO improves livelihoods and contributes to building peace and prosperity in conflict and post-conflict countries.
